Get off striker’s back pleads pundit

|

Jamie Redknapp may well have been listening to voices we haven’t heard over the last few weeks given his latest words in the Daily Mail.

He appears to have been hearing that Seb Haller – along with Villa’s Wesley – were written off in the early stages of their moves although it’s a little tricky to work out just where that has come from.

I have to admit however, that I was rung by a well known agent who claimed that Haller was not all that and that the Hammers had been taken to the cleaners by Eintracht Frankfurt at the price.

I don’t put the phone down on anybody, however outrageous they become, but have to say that that was the closest I’ve come.

Redknapp’s point on Haller may be difficult to understand but in general terms he makes a sensible point given that social media is everybody’s first rage outlet these days and any player can be criticised and sometimes crucified upon it.

Writing in the Mail he said: ““I’m sick of seeing strikers written off after one or two outings. We need to give them time. Back in the day, we would wait 10 games to judge a player properly.

That’s why I’m glad two strikers in particular showed what they are about this weekend to silence the critics.

“One was Aston Villa’s Wesley, a £22million buy from Bruges, the other West Ham’s Sebastien Haller. a £45m purchase from Eintracht Frankfurt. Neither had played in the Premier League but both led the line and scored.

“They did their jobs and led their teams to their first wins of the season. Now let’s get off their backs and see how they progress.”

Yet another sensationalist piece of bogus clap trap from Redknapp will this no mark stop at nothing for a bit of the limelight? Must be getting jealous of his old man and ex missus. Turn it in and just face away quietly.

1974 what did Rednapp say that has riled you so much?
He has basically told people not to write players off after two or three games. Haller has led the line & scored so get off his back.
Nothing wrong with that as far as I can see….

I totally agree with the previous poster about Red knap he needs to give his head a shake and keep his jelousy under control as for criticism of Sebastian Haller I haven’t heard any from the people who matter that being West Ham fans

Redknapp didn’t exactly uproot any trees as a player and was never considered a great or even middling player . As always ; pundits trying to score points to stay in employment .
For example ; the Sky Gillette matchday pundits do exactly the same …. and they enjoy it .
They all think they know more than the players on the field and even worse ; they think they know more than the actual Manager’s at any given Club . How many of them have tried to manage a football club ??? , not many . They are in effect unemployable as coaches , let alone managers . But they are still on big earnings for talking about people who actually go out there and try .
My Rant : Sorry folks . But I meant every word .

Haller hasn’t had any stick from West Ham fans (couldn’t tell you about other fans) but he only played one game prior to Watford. He’s now 2 in 2 so not sure where this ‘stick’ is coming from.

As a general point though, it would be nice if people would give players a couple of months before making a judgement on them.

Haller is going to be absolute class the whole team will get better the more they get to know each other . The one thing to avoid is to think we will role teams over and not put in 100% . I put our next game vs Norwich as a point . If we turn up thinking they’ve just come up we can relax that would be a massive mistake we will need to give everything to beat them believe me .
