Give West Ham duo new deals – they have been great

|

West Ham will decide whether Lukasz Fabianski, Angelo Ogbonna and Ben Johnson are to receive contract extensions  when the final games of the season have been played.

The two veterans have question marks over their names and the lack of action from Johnson suggests that the club is ready to listen to offers.

We have had various responses from fans on whether they should or should not get new deals and here CandH follower Hammeroo gives his view which is typical of man on the forum.

He said: I really hope Fab and Oggy are offered another year at West Ham. They have both been magnificent for the club.

As for Ben Johnson, it’s almost beyond comprehension how he has regressed so badly. I say almost because I think his confidence has been destroyed by David Moyes.

With another manager I believe Ben will re-emerge as the versatile talent that he was before. It would, in my opinion, be a terrible waste if he were to be transferred.”

I believe David Moyes has limited man-management skills when it comes to the playing squad. He buys players with specific skills, then plays them in a style to which they are unaccustomed, giving little time for adjustment, then leaving them on the bench, expecting miracles when selected to play after lengthy bench time. He is a mediocre manager and nothing more, and the club need to progress and become what we all want….success.

I would not be against new 1 year deals for Fab and Oggy. I would also love to extend Lanzinis deal by a year as long as Moyes is gone.

I’d like to see all of the aforementioned players offered an extended West Ham deal. Fabianski’s and Ogbonna’s ages should not go against them as they’ve each had excellent seasons. It is time, however, to promote Areola to first choice ‘keeper. If Johnson leaves, someone is going to get a young player who still has great potential. So the Young Hammer of the Year for the past two seasons should stay and regain his confidence for next season. The signing of Paqueta reduced Lanzini’s game time dramatically this season. Moyes seems to prefer Fornals off the bench when chasing the game, but for me, Lanzini is the better option as he has the ability to keep the team ticking more than Fornals does. At just turned 30, he’s far from finished in my opinion, so West Ham must keep him.
Downes is a crab-like Moyes player. He offers nothing going forward and his disciplinary record is a liability. The only thing Downes has in common with Rice is that they were born in the same week! If and when a new (and more positive thinking) manager comes in, Downes will be shown the door – he isn’t good enough for West Ham or the Premier League.
There are players to be poached from the relegated teams this summer. Without mentioning names, the club will be aware of who might be good additions to their squad, especially if there is another season in European competition. A step closer to that possibility might be made tonight. COYI.
