Hammer gets second chance after miserable loan spell

|

Highly promising Hammers midfielder Conor Coventry has swapped a miserable loan spell at Peterborough United for a second half of the season with Milton Keynes Dons

The Republic of Ireland U21s captain was barely involved at Posh who are firmly rooted in the Championship bottom three but he now has the chance to strut his stuff with the League One promotion seekers.

MK Dons are currently fifth in the division with 46 points whilst his former loan club have just 19 and are involved in a desperate struggle after their promotion from League One last season.

Coventry was in fine form for the Irons in their pre-season campaign and great things were expected of him in the Championship but he made just four starts in his 12 appearances.

Coventry will now work under a familiar face in former Academy of Football U23s lead coach Liam Manning, who became MK Dons’ head coach in August after a successful 2020/21 season with Lommel SK in Belgium.

Last season, Coventry scored seven goals in 21 games as captain of the Hammers’ U23s and led his team to safety in Premier League 2 Division 1, and the midfielder has already scored twice in three Premier League 2 appearances this term.
