David Moyes has revealed that teenage strike prospect Mipo Odubeko has proved both positive and negative for covid and in so doing has thrown some doubt over the testing process generally.

The teenager could have expected to play a part in the match against Doncaster Rovers tomorrow (Sat) but the club is refusing to take any chances.

It’s clearly a difficult situation to manage as they can take no risks in the current circumstances and would not allow the striker to train with the rest of the squad for fear of a possible virus spread.

It means that given the testing confusion, the lad will definitely miss out on a match which would have given the manager a real chance to look at his potential.

However, he has now missed a week’s training and with Michail Antonio unlikely to play we await Moyes way forward on the striker issue.

Discussing the Odubeko problem at his pre-FA Cup fourth round presser against Doncaster Rovers the manager said: “He had a positive test but it actually came back with a  negative test so we are a little bit in the dark and we’re waiting on the doctors to find out what’s correct.

He has missed the best part of a week’s training.”
