Hammers bid rejected

West Ham United have reportedly made a £9.3m offer to sign Inter Milan starlet Valentin Carboni, but the Italian club are holding out for a much higher fee.

According to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, the Hammers have tabled an offer for the Argentine attacking midfielder, who is currently on loan at Monza in Serie B.

However, Inter are said to want almost double that amount before leaving West Ham facing disappointment in their pursuit of the talented youngster.

Carboni has been in impressive form for Monza this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 18 appearances. His performances have caught the eye of Inter but the club are keen to keep hold of the 20-year-old unless we can come up with a bid closer to their requirements.

West Ham were said to be in the market for attacking reinforcements this month, but it now appears that they will be forced to look elsewhere. With plenty of attacking talent already in the squad, it would have been difficult to give Carboni the playing time he would need to develop.

However, the Hammers are likely to continue to monitor Carboni’s progress, and they may return with an improved offer in the summer.
