Hammers break but Areola preaches “focus”

|

The Hammers have a fortnight off and boy, do they deserve it.

When they return from the break they will be facing a classic FA Cup banana skin in Worcestershire where Kidderminster Harriers will be looking to create the shock of the competition thus far.

And the man who will be looking to stop that happening is  goalkeeper Alphonse Areola following his first Premier League match this season.

He got his chance at Old Trafford as a result of Lukasz Fabianski testing positive for covid and will be looking to put the pressure on the number one again after a fine game.

With one fine save in particular he looked business throughout the 90 minutes but obviously had no chance with the last second goal.

The Hammers are now probably hoping that they and he will become a permanent union next season with the stopper having a clause in his loan agreement which allows him to make the deal permanent.

Commenting on his situation he declared: “I’m trying to give my best. It was my first game in the Premier League for West Ham, so I was expecting another [positive] result, but it’s football. We love it and we have to come back and put our heads back in the game, so let’s go!”

And looking to the game against the National League north outfit he said: “It will be different, but we have to be ready with the same focus, same mentality, same motivation and same professionalism and that’s it.”
