Hammers chase Coufal upgrade

Coufal upgrade despite new deal

West Ham are reportedly closely monitoring Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza, with a bid for the Spanish full-back expected in January. The right-back position has become a priority for West Ham, prompting Tim Steidten to actively search the market.

Mingueza’s existing contract with Celta Vigo runs until July 2026, meaning his club will likely demand top dollar. Known for his tough playing style, Mingueza is also decent in the attacking third. Whilst primarily a right-back, he can play as a central defender role when needed.

Vladimir Coufal has had a strong start to the season for West Ham, assisting three consecutive goals. However, his recent form has dipped, and with Thilo Kehrer as backup, there is an obvious need for a second option. The club is considering activating another year on Coufal’s current contract while exploring potential reinforcements in the form of players like Oscar Mingueza.

Mingueza was asked directly about West Ham during a recent press conference.

“I have nothing planned, nor has anyone contacted me. I’m focused on Celta,” Mingueza said.

“West Ham is a great team. A very nice team. But I am focused on Celta and the next match”

Mingueza came through the academy at Barcelona before joining Celta for £6m.
