Hammers defender departure would be foolhardy

|

Valencia are this morning reported to be targeting Angelo Ogbonna as a January signing.

The report inĀ GoalĀ  has emerged as a result of the successful pairing between Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop with the 14th placed La Liga outfit believing that gives them a real chance of landing the central defender.

However, it once again overlooks the Manuel Pellegrini philosophy of building a squad and as was seen on Tuesday night with Balbuena out, Ogbonna was the first choice to replace.

Injuries and suspensions are so regular in this game that a regular run of games could be minutes away and with Winston Reid still sidelined it would be foolardy in the extreme to allow Oggy to move on at this stage.

And his agent declared recently that the player was very happy at the club and at this stage there was no intention of him signing for any other outfit and that he has a West Ham contract until 2022.

We have to keep him at the moment, but if our scouts have seen another Diop or Balbuena, then get him in, let Ogbonna go. There’s also a case for Pask to be given a chance of being on the bench against Birmingham.
