West Ham United have reportedly resorted to desperate measures in our attempts to lure Nice central defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

The Hammers’ interest in the twice-capped France international was assumed to have ended following the £40 million agreement for Max Kilman. However, not only is that no longer the case, but Sky Sports News are also doubling down on West Ham’s interest by claiming we are still in the running for the Frenchman.

Alternative reports also suggest that West Ham have offered not one, but two players in part exchange for Todibo.

As difficult as it is to believe, numerous sources claim the two-for-one offer involves Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd heading to France, with Todibo coming in the other direction.

It’s difficult to know how attractive this proposition would be to Ligue 1 club Nice. My first thoughts on the matter were that it was a preposterous suggestion; however, upon closer reflection, Zouma is a French international, while Aguerd was purchased from France.

One would imagine that wages could be a problem in any such complex deal, so perhaps West Ham would have to sweeten the offer with some sort of wage subsidy.

This transfer rumour is surely a bit of a non-starter, but if there is any semblance of truth in it, then it would validate other stories which suggest we retain a serious interest in Todibo.

I actually didn’t understand it that way. I don’t think it was a 2 for 1 offer, rather we tried to part ex Zouma and when that was knocked back, we offered Aguerd.
