Hammers eye midfield ‘wonderkid’

It is being reported this morning the Hammers have sent scouts to watch Blackburn Rovers’ wonderkid Adam Wharton in recent weeks.

The Daily Mail claims he not short of suitors as Newcastle, Tottenham, Arsenal, Leicester and the Hammers have all been watching him in the last few weeks or so.

Wharton has been amusingly described as the “taller Jack Wilshere” and the 18-year-old has made a good impression in his 19 Championship appearances to date.

It goes without saying that Blackburn will be loath to let the midfielder go as they once again aim for promotion next term.

I watched him get on the scoresheet during the recent televised Rovers win over Millwall with a cracking finish from outside the box. Nevertheless, it can always be hit or miss when recruiting from the Championship but we have had some successes in Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma

With West Ham’s league status now more secure, and the imminent appointment of a Director of football, perhaps we can now cast an eye forward to the summer.
