Antonio claims a player has to do better

|

Mikey Antonio’s emergence as the club’s No 1 striker again is a real tribute to the 33 year old No 9.

It is debatable that given his form Gianluca Scamacca would have been able to get past him had he been fit.

However, he remains a little surprised at the 1-0 win over Manchester United which brought us close to Premier League safety.

And whilst he admits he doesn’t want to slate David De Gea he was stunned by the goal he let in against us which turned out to be the winner.

Said Benrahma’s softly hit shot looked set to be comfortable dealt with by the United keep but instead ended up in the back of the net after he had managed to get hands to it.

Antonio was asked what his reaction was to the howler by De Gea at the time.

And like the rest of us he had trouble believing his eyes saying: “I can’t slate the man,

“I don’t really want to slate the man. But De Gea has got to do better.

“I don’t understand, he is such a good keeper. But he has these moments, I feel so bad for the guy. He was up there as one of the best keepers in the world, even though he is up there, he still has these crazy moments.

“That goal, it was so slow. When I saw the shot I thought ‘he is just going to collect this’.”
