Hammers help on security costs? – don’t be silly

|

stadiumHuge guffaws of laughter rang around the CandH offices yesterday when we read that the LS  operators are allegedly considering asking the Irons for a contribution towards the increased costs of policing at the London Stadium.

Apparently, because of the entirely unforseen possibility that the security they had put in place – and for which they are entirely responsible – would not be sufficient, they may want the Irons to weigh in with a donation – according to the Daily Mail anyway.

I’ll assume from that that if an event such as an upcoming Depeche Mode Concert  goes better than expected we can ask the operator for a few bob – that was in the contract wasn’t it?

Yeah, of course it’s a ridiculus idea, as is the very suggestion that the Irons board will have their arms twisted behind their backs on security costs.

The deal is clear and the contract is signed. We pay £2.5 million a year for 25 days use of the stadium. The operators foot the costs on everything else including security – it is after all their stadium and their job.

Neither David Sullivan or David Gold earned their fortunes ny becoming parties to contracts which would see them do retrospective favours to people if things didn’t quite work out as they had hoped.

And I really don’t believe they are going to start at this stage of their business careers.

Ludicrous idea!

Whilst I am sure you are right, I wouldn’t mind if we did renegotiate an increase in exchange for the Stadium to put in safe standing and fence the away support in.
