Hammers in for Ligue 1 defender – report

|

West Ham are interested in a swoop to sign Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile, according to a new report in France.

The Hammers are looking to sign a new central defender in this transfer window after injuries sustained by both Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma.

Foot Mercato now claims that the Irons are one of the clubs keeping a close eye on Badiashile, who has emerged as a target for a number of English clubs.

The Irons are said to be very interested in a deal to bring the 20-year-old to England but he may not come cheap.

He has a contract with Monaco until 2024 and is valued at £25.2m by Transfermarkt, a major fee for a 20-year-old.

Badiashile is also a France U21 international with nine caps and has already made over 100 appearances for his club, as he is clearly seen as a top player by those at the principality club.

We’re going to stick this one down as having a pretty low chance, especially in mid-season, but it might be one for the Hammers to revisit in the summer.

Do we want Europe, do we want Champions League, do we want to keep Declan Rice, mid season or not , if we do then we need top quality signings (signings or loans) at the very min in the form of a left back, CB, and a striker/forward. Ok if we cannot sign the players that will improve we should not sign someone who is not going to make us better but we must be prepared to pay a little over the odds to get the quality we need to secure the above. It is time to stop talking about its mid season and start challenging teams with proper offers for the players we need. I hear people saying if we get Zouma back we do not need a CB, I just don’t agree at all. The game against Palace should have showed us how badly we need signings.
