Hammers in Payet U-turn

|

thumbWest Ham have done a U-turn and will do their utmost to sell Dimi Payet for the best price possible.

And that has gone down well among some players who believe the sulky superstar has been indulged by the club for too long.

Slaven Bilic – in announcing the shock news yesterday (Thurs) that the player wanted out insisted the club wanted to keep their best player.

And privately the  mood towards the player could not be blacker after the club believed they had an informal arrangement with him and his agent that they would let him go in the summer.

According to our own sources – as reported yesterday – there is a strong suggestion that he is insisting on a move for personal reasons and the Mirror claims the same today via Darren Lewis who has good links to the club.

The Hammers, however may find themselves a little hamstrung in negotiations because Payet is insisting the only club that interests him is Marseilles.

We’ve lost the player and the only thing worse than that is to lose the player for a sum that does not reflect his current market value
Payet, perhaps for the first time, is now feeling the pressure. If he wasn’t happy in London before with us, he certainly won’t be now. No doubt Mrs Payet will be giving him some grief, too.
I don’t believe for a second that we are any better or worse than any other club when it comes to tapping players up, but the way he has behaved is a disgrace and is no doubt, at least in part, responsible for some of the terrible performances this season.

So, Marseille have called and let them call again. It would be the best situation all round now if we can get the toxic wotsit out of the club for a decent price. But only for the right price.

Otherwise, well, you might just have to wait until summer, Dimitri

It’s just an opinion but to me it’s a no brainier. Take £20m now and use it wisely in the window. £25m in the summer would be immaterial if we were to be relegated. With Payet hanging around like a bad smell Slav would be asked about him at every press conference, every post match interview etc etc. Would hardly help team spirit and morale if all anyone was Interested in was a sulky overpaid prima donna. With the £20m maybe we could prise Dembele out of Celtic as he knows where the goal is regardless of the standard of opposition. In addition Snodgrass could chip in a few goals and the spectre of relegation would be a dim and distant memory come May.

    • Thiucgshaun says:

£20m? Are you joking? Shneiderlin went for £24m. Market value for the number 17 ballon d’or, third best player at euros and shortlist for pfa player of the year is £40m minimum, probably more. We get what we consider to be the best price.

Again another article refers to this person as a “superstar”,to me superstars are the likes of Messi,Ronaldo,Suarez,Pogba and he certainly ain’t one of those because those guys are respected the world over .Anyway our fans deserve to get as much money as they can for him, although I prefer he’s made to suffer until the summer, but should they get £40-£50m for him, after all he’s a superstar, the price of incoming players will go up.Either way we lose again.

  • Colin Irons says:

The bitter side of me in this whole business says let him rot away from football but the more sensible side says cash in & use the money to get players in who want to put effort in on the pitch for us.
We just need to play hardball, dont accept derisory offers & then if no sensible bid comes in which reflects his true worth then leave him to rot in the reserves until the summer.
I dont know about any of these off field rumours about him or his family but it all seems a bit of a coincident at the same time the new OM owners have come in & started to stroke his ego. I mean wasnt it only a few weeks ago he was trying to get his tongue up Wengers rearend.Strange Dimitri but they play in London too not France.
Wenger wouldn’t touch a player like him now anyway..

  • jaybs says:

No use keeping a player who is not settled, sad that it has come to this, but it is time for Payet to go, simple as that,

  • Hammer64 says:

Yes cash in. But ffs get moving on the transfer front anyway. I hope the people on here who said yesterday this whole incidentwould galvanise the other players are right. The comment above about the other players suggests they might be. They could be- that is the best you will get from Victor Meldrew. Sorry to the under 30s- just read that as from A miserable old git.

  • sleepswithdafishes says:

The fact that the only club he wants to go to is Marseille, is probably why Bilic is pretending he is going nowhere. Without credible alternatives to Marseille there is no opposition to drive up the price, so we have to make Marseille work harder in another way.
The story of family reasons for going is just a ploy. He’s wanted out since the summer when PSG was frightened of. His body language and performances have proved that. All french players would love to play for PSG.
If by the end of the window we can get 30 mil for him from Marseille, we will have done well, and can move on.

  • Long Fella says:

Minimum 30 million, that should be the absolute lowest we take.Even that is too low in my book.

  • ian says:

    Mr Payet ,
You represent everything which is wrong in modern football…
You had a chance to be a legend ,
Turns out your just a Bellend

  • PopRobson says:

The club must stand strong on this, let him go only for a sensible price, and that’s not £20m on anything like it, my god we paid more than that for Ayew. If no sensible price then make him rot in the U23’s, banned from the training ground when the ‘senior’ players are around.

  • Maravilla says:

Offer him to the Chinese market who pay inflated prices and use that as a yardstick to Marseille or any other club

  • baddowhammer says:

Should be interesting as Chelski are rumoured to be interested, if it is personal reasons,he’d have to turn them down.
Marseille are his only desired destination, iif you believe what you read.Wouldn’t be surprised if we sell him to them.I’d be even more surprised if he were to turn Chelsea down if they made a serious bid.I also wouldn’t be surprised if we sell him for less than 25 mill. COYI

  • Radai Lama..Out of contract & available says:

I dont know what all the family issue rumours are about or even if they are true. But even if they are true it doesnt stop a footballer from trying on a pitch for 90 mins a week for his club does it.Which this Richardhead clearly hasnt been doing 😉

  • ARH says:

If OM can sign him for 20 million now with this agent what’s the betting he’ll be back in the Prem at Chelsea or Man U in the summer and OM will be sitting pretty with a big fat profit? There are no morals in football, just greed.

    • Radai Lama..Out of contract & available says:

So its a conspiracy between OM & Manure is it ARH.I like that, its more interesting than most reasons given.Have you ever tried writing whodunnit novels 😉😂

  • Badger says:

Funny how when money gets mentioned our chairmen do a U Turn.
I wonder how much of whatever we get goes towards into the transfer pot, bet Dumb & Dumber are already getting creative on the final transfer fee.

So as we didn’t spend 30m on the summer marque signing and lets say after D&D deductions Payets fee is around 20m, that’s means the manager should have 50m to spend. But once our chairmen have deducted every possible player expense over a 5yr contract Slav will end up with just a 15m budget if lucky.

WHU under Dumb & Dumbers direction are fast becoming a total joke and all the promise of new stadium and being a top 6 club is just hype and spin designed to sell season tickets, while the reality is the club is being run on a shoestring budget.
