Hammers in top 20 world wage payers

MoneyballWest Ham are reported this morning as having the 15th highest wages in world football.

A report in the Mail claims that a global survey shows the Hammers bill at around £2.26 million or £43k a week.

Manchester United are the highest paid at £110k a week and the Hammers are behind the likes of the top four of course plus Paris St Germain (86k), Jventus and Inter Milan .

aThe survey says that Average basic first-team pay in England’s top division is £2,438,275, or £48,766 a week. That is close to double the average wage in La Liga, which is just more than £1.2m per player per year, or £24,786 a week.

The Mail reports: “The Premier League’s financial strength in depth is mightier than ever thanks to new TV deals now in force for the 2016-19 seasons, when Sky and BT Sport will pay £5.1bn between them for domestic live rights.

Foreign broadcasters will pay £3bn for overseas rights collectively, and Match of the Day and other programmes will contribute hundreds of millions more for highlights and delayed rights.

  1. So we pay an average of £43k a week. Payet is on circa £100k and China Doll £80k with Reid not far behind. I think the concern here is we have a big squad, built up over the summer ready for European football, of distinctly average players earning better than average salaries. Takes me back to what I’ve been saying since the start of the season, we did not buy quality but quantity and the first 11 has not improved from last year. Who has come in and done what Moses did? Not Tore, thats for sure. Thought Song looked slow last term but his replacements are no better. Fernandes could go on to be a smashing player but early days and he isn’t on much money yet. Let’s hope for a January cull with numbers reduced but a bit more quality added.
