West Ham had the eighth-most expensive squad for the Premier League 2020/2o21 season costing £299m to assemble.
Beyond Everton who spent £498m and finished tenth West Ham were the club to spend the most money outside the traditional top six clubs.
Manchester City spent the most with £978m and finished champions, Manchester United spent the second most £851m and finished second in the Premier League table, Chelsea spent £822m and finished fourth while Liverpool spent £634m and finished third.
Arsenal who spent the fifth most with £616m will be disappointed with their eight-place finish.
The Hammers outperformed them spend finishing sixth place.
Tables provided by Football finance guru Kieran Maguire who said “Total cost of squads at end of 19/20 was £7,428,000,000, up £691m on previous summer. Manchester City could have the first £1bn squad cost following purchase of Jack Grealish.”
In comparison, Maguire published the 2019/2020 season figures which show West Ham were behind Everton, Leciester City and Southampton in terms of spend on the squad spending £255m.
Hopefully, these graphs will go some way to dispel some of the myths that West Ham have not invested in the squad.
Much of it would be a legacy of the Pellegrini era.
A net spend would be interesting…
These aren’t wages, these are the transfer costs to ensemble the current squad they have
Hi Sean. Are these costs only player wages, or something else in addition? Would be interesting to see a ratio of total player wages / total squad value (Transfermarkt or something)!
Was going to ask similarly I.e how is this spend calculated.
I am guessing looked at the price to buy each player in transfer fees to create the full squad
