Hammers receive recommended player target

Manchester United’s 27 year old attacker is Jesse Lingard being recommended as a West Ham target by former Old Traford midfield ace Paul Scholes.

He is  quoted on BBC Sport as saying he clearly being a player better than being just a squad member and that he might be well advised to move on.

The attacking midfielder/winger made 22 Premier League appearances last season and Scholes clearly doesn’t believe his Old Trafford playing time will improve over the the remainder of his career.

BBC Sport quotes Scholes as saying about Lingard: “I know what Jesse is capable of, I grew up with him, played with him, coached him in the reserves, but he has just become a squad player.

“Jesse is a good lad, he just needs a run of games but I don’t think he will get that at Manchester United, maybe at a mid-table team like an Everton or West Ham.”

Scholes’ view is one thing but the reality is that the Irons boss David Moyes is overloaded with wingers right now and looking to get rid of a couple in the summer.

As we reported on the website yesterday the temptation  to allow Grady Diangana to move on to West Brom is a possibility should Slaven Bilic come calling and Andriy Yarmolenko is another who is very much on the outward bound list along with Felipe Anderson.

Should Moyes raid Old Trafford he is more likely to be looking at Phil Jones given his need for a central defender with the player being available for around £10-£12 million.

He comes out of contract next summer with an option for a further year and wouldn’t come cheap anyway but Everton is probably a more likely destination in the meantime.

  1. I don’t get why Yarmalenko is on the for sale list? He has the best goals per minute ratio of the entire squad last season. He’s something like our 3rd top scorer and missed 60% of the season

  2. Lingard on Loan with Option to Buy. Not a bad shout if Anderson is gone.

I’d give Yarmo another year, been solid. Anderson and Lanzini out now, injury prone and mood determines form too much across out forwards. Only Bowen and Antonio seem up for it every match, maybe Yarmo but hard to say with injuries.

Haller or Antionio with Lingard Bowen and Yarmo behind and roaming, Soucek Rice and Noble fielding and a couple of decent RB/CB signings and I think we’ll be OK, 8th to 12th.

  3. Zac you have answered your own question re 60% of season missed.

  4. I agree Zac!

Yarmo’s goal against Chelsea was the undisputed highlight of the season. He’s a class act coming in off the left. Leave him be.

  5. Moyes showed the way forward by signing Bowen and Soucek. Now the Montiel offer has gone in. Fortunately the club isn’t looking for older players on a downward curve.

  6. We have not got a hope in hell of signing Lingard and Scholes knows, his wages would probably frighten us to death.

Why are we not getting on and selling the surplus Players asap and buying the new ones we need ? There is only six weeks and we need to get them training with the rest of the lads.
