Hammers set to take big financial hit

|

West Ham are expecting to take a big hit on Jordan Hugill when he finally walks away from the club after having had little chance to show what he’s got.

His only real Hammers outing was in a fund raiser for Dagenham and Redbridge last season when, whilst failing to inspire, the former Preston and North End striker did manage a goal.

Beyond that the £10 million man has made a few bench appearances making brief appearances against Brighton, Watford and Southampton towards the end of the season.

Although there have been no firm inquiries for the striker he has been linked with Queens Park Rangers after building a reputation at Deepdale as being an effective Championship striker.

However, the Irons are expecting to take a financial loss on the Middlesbrough-born 26 year old who in fact managed  just 23 goals for North End in 123 appearances.

makes you wonder who signed him, Moyes clearly was not a fan

I think that the money spent on players needs to be seen in the context of a relegation struggle. So I don’t think that 6 million on Fonte was a waste – as his performance in crucial games in the previous season against Swansea (1-0 at home) and Spurs (1-0 at home) helped ensure our survival

Similarly Moyes got Patrice Evra and Hugill as insurance cover for the end of last season – so a loss on Hugill is a lot better than a hypothetical situation in which Carroll was still injured and we were short of a striker going into a must win game

Remember that we can count oursleves quite lucky to have got back most of the transfer fee for Andre Ayew

So whatever we get for Hugill will be a bonus which can be added to the 70 million kitty

He was definitely brought as a panic buy….. So we wish him all the best and success for the future ….he’s a good lad but just hasn’t measured up in the premier league (which is no easy task) week in week out …..hope he gets a decent club….

Was purchased purely in case we went down. I agree, doesn’t matter if we sell him for half.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

He was an odd choice, none of his stats suggested he would be successful his shooting accuracy alone should have been enough to warn us off him but DS loves a panic buy, am expecting more of those in the last few days of the window based on our inability to get deals done so far on Pastore / Anderson. How good Anderson is remains to be seen also, no other clubs seem interested in him.

  • zahama says:

Good point on how good Anderson actually is No 32 – our previous target Bacca missed a pen though that could happen to anyone – but not sure how well he has played in the World Cup overall – does anyone feel – Oh if only he had joined us?

The one I would have liked to see us get is Harry Maguire. We seemed to have him lined up a couple years ago but then Leicester stepped in. I know he was maybe at fault for the goal last night but that Colombian CB is a monster (snap him up!) & otherwise Maguire has been really good. I suppose three buys at this stage of the window is not bad by our standards, but there’s still work to be done. It’s going to be a bit of a mess for sides like us who are (I hope) restructuring on a big scale. Short window plus World Cup. Pellegrini is going to have to earn his dough to get them ready.

  • Hammerkip says:

We won’t pay an extra 5 mil on Anderson but we are ok wasting all the mi!!ons on hugil
Evra and font ..Jesus we are so bad at this ..days and weeks are drifting by and still we have no marquee signings..sorry to say but it’s got an all to familiar look to it ..if we loose out first 2\3 games it will go to pot again.. And it’s down to our ineptitude in the transfer market…when Will they ever learn..
