Manuel Pellegrini is keen to reinforce at left back and up front this winter!
However, given the difficulty in priority signings in January he may need to rely on loans despite not having a serious track record in that area..
Despite Michail Antonio being set for a post international break return, the manager is keen to bring in another back up striker given the slow development of Albian Ajetii – a signing which continues to raise eyebrows around the club given his similarity to Chicharito who never really fitted the Pellegrini system.
Indeed, when the manager decided to take an offer for him in the summer it was a confirmation of his predecessor David Moyes’ opinion of the player – allowing him to leave Man United on loan when in charge and offering him limited opportunities at the London Stadium.
Now, insiders at the club have revealed to us that a striker has become a target along with a left back despite both Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku having signed long term deals.
We were told by one senioe source by telephone: “A central defender was a possible requirement but with Winston Reid making good progress that one could go on hold as the left back and striker positions are looked at.”
Incredible what managers see even managers as experienced as Pelle. We do not need another striker, as both Antonio and Yarmo have played there before and played well there. We need another pacey and skilful winger who can allow either of these to play up top. I have been calling for another winger since the beginning of the summer transfer window. We also need a CM more than a left back, one of the reasons we are not scoring goals is because neither Noble or Rice gets into the box. I find it so strange to be honest, signing a left back and another 9 is not the answer.
Completely right John! We have 2 poor LBs but they can get us through to summer. We desperately need a CM (high energy, quick, tackler, strong) as an absolute priority. Followed by a CB and winger.
