Hammers Target Corinthians Youngster

|

West Ham United are reportedly turning their attention to the Brazilian Serie A, with 19-year-old winger Wesley Gassova of Corinthians emerging as a transfer target.

This move suggests a potentially new transfer strategy for the Hammers, with a focus on acquiring young talent.

The Sunday Mirror claims West Ham are preparing to initiate talks with Corinthians for Gassova, whose contract runs until December 2027. The youngster has already gained experience, featuring nearly 60 times for the Sao Paulo-based club since his debut two years ago.

Gassova’s age presents a question mark, as young South American players can struggle to adapt to the Premier League’s intensity. However,  his potential outweighs the risk, and his signing could represent a gamble worth taking.

This potential transfer could signal a shift in West Ham’s transfer policy under technical director Tim Steidten. Previously, the club may have been criticised for a lack of imagination in the transfer market. Targeting young talents like Gassova suggests a more forward-thinking approach.

While Gassova’s current statistics of four goals and three assists in 56 appearances might not be eye-catching, But with his age and the prospect of significant development he could be worth a punt. Ultimately, the transfer fee will likely be a major deciding factor. If West Ham can secure Gassova for a reasonable price, the potential rewards could be substantial.
