Hammers thrown Euro lifeline

West Ham may be clutching at straws with our hopes of clinching European football next season but it seems Premier League results may have gone our way this evening.

With The Hammers battling Newcastle United for seventh place, the Magpies travelled to Selhurst Park only to face the same fate as West Ham by losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace.

It would still require a miracle for David Moyes to claim a 4th consecutive season of European football next season, particularly with Eddie Howe’s Toon team still having a game in hand. There remains a glimmer of hope, however, following Chelsea’s thumping at the hands of Arsenal yesterday.

Moyes will need to beat Klopp’s Liverpool on Saturday

West Ham entertain Liverpool at the London Stadium on Saturday in what would normally be a tricky fixture. However, Jurgen Klopp’s team have damaged their title chances with a 2-0 loss in the Merseyside derby against Everton and must now travel to London for the early kick-off.

Clutching at straws? Maybe, but results certainly seem to have gone in our favour.

Clutching at straws would be the Blades’ fan who thinks his time will survive. West Ham will need one more win than Newcastle who have a game in hand. It’s not a miracle. Why shouldn’t they beat Liverpool, Chelsea and Luton? All three have a had very mixed fortunes of late. A win away at Man City is more like a miracle, Gonzo.

      Well put

    • Tony says:

The reason why we need a miracle is quite simple.. David Moyes team selection and tactics.

All of you castigating David Moyes have a short memory. Twice he’s brought your team from the abyss (after paying him with a sack for helping you the first time and you had to go beg and rehire him).
He even won you an European title that you haven’t had in decades.
Now comfortable regularly in the top half of the table, unlike the days before Moyes when you fought relegation regularly’ you have quickly forgotten, you and your management want to pay him with a sack again. That’s biting the fingers that fed you. I see you fighting relegation again soon or even drop to the championship. Then, probably you will appreciate David Moyes. And it will be too late.

  • Bonzo says:

If we had won only two of the games we lost this season, or if we’d got the points we’re were robbed by var we would be in 6th place right now. It’s a mad world alright.

  • Benny the Aussie says:

We know Moyes will balls it.
He will go defensive and park the team coach, canteen lady on the goal line

I’m lifelong whu fan and have to agree many fans have short memories last 3 yrs we’ve never had it so good COYI

  • rob says:

the way liverpool played against the toffees was shocking, IF our lot actually turn up i fancy our chances.. we have 3 winnable matches..

    • Derek Brown says:

What is Moyes thinking sending out teams to play defensive football the object of the game is to score more goals than your opponents and we have the players to do that be glad to see the back of him but do appreciate that he managed to win a European trophy but he is lost the plot and time for a change

  • Michael Stone says:

Motes getting Phillips cost nine points in my eyes. I don’t blame Phillips but do blame Moyes. Still not starting Munbana and sending Marshall out on loan says it all.

    • Billy Blagg says:

The fact you blame Moyes but not Phillips says much. Getting Phillips in seemed a masterstroke, nobody could predict what happened to him or how badly he would fail to grasp a golden opportunity. Being wise after the event doesn’t prove anything. Mubama doesn’t look up to it – he may turn out to be something but he’s certainly not there yet. He needs to go out on loan, like Marshall.

  • James Taylor brown says:

That’s what happened against Fulham what happened against five crystal palace if that’s defensive roll on the championship then I don’t get it

  • Budgie says:

Like everyone else I have been really surprised at the complete failure of Philips. I certainly don’t blame David Moyes, he brought in Lingard who was in same situation as Philips and it washailed as, a, stroke of genius!

  • Ian.knott says:

I think, if, Moyes lets team play football rather than tying them to the goal posts, then, we could get the extra points we need. After all, attack is definitely our best form of defence just now.
It would give us a chance of landing a better head coach for next season too.
Keep your positivity Gonzo, Up the Hammers.
