Hammers to sign young centre back

|
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has settled on signing a young Portuguese teenager defender over Gary Cahill and Aaron Long.
ClaretandHugh understands the young player is due to fly into London on Monday to conclude the transfer and is described inside the club as “one for the future who could make a first-team breakthrough this season”
The club has been working on a deal for the new central defender over the last three days and are confident that they now have the player under wraps and can eliminate any late interest which may emerge from rival clubs.
Just to be safe the name is being kept under wraps at the moment but as the transfer comes to a conclusion there is acceptance within the club that the name will break most likely by the Portugal media first.  It is fair to say that most West Ham fans won’t have heard of the player but you could say the same about Fabian Balbuena when he signed last summer.

In pelle we really trust with players young and unheard of !

  • John Shetcliffe says:

Is a young inexperienced centre half going to resolve our defensive weaknesses of last season confirmed in pre season games?

  • Dom says:

Can he also play left back?

  • JRS says:

Hearing its a young Portuguese defender? If so I hope is Goncalo Cardosa he fits the bill 18 at Bovista wouldn’t break bank bc not from huge club. But played w U20s & U19s he is 18 still I think tall strong Left footed CB who is good passer quick & goal threat. I would really like a left footed CB w Oggy getting older & not being the best passer. Tho Diop has slotted in well at LCB this Kid I really like & much more exciting the Long.
Tho who knows of its him. But glad we are getting a CB hopefully get a DM too. Pellegrini doesn’t like loans supposedly tho I like Pulgar a lot there are some decent DMs for loan Bakayoko I would take.

can we call him the Corporal?

  • Max Wilow says:

The aditionof a promising centre back could take some pressure off Balbuena and Dio–sounds like a good signing!

  • JRS says:

It is Cardosa for £2.5m or so very good haooy about this signing! Left footed CB only 18 smart signing & investment. Kid keeps professing like he has been at only 18 £2.5m will be a snip for him.

This signing shows Pelle is building not only for this season but next one as well a much better deal than Cahill who only played for Chelsea nine times last year and he would want a signing on fee plus exhorbitant wages. All we need now is a good DM

Not wanting to sound negative, but I don’t think it is the personnel at the back we have a major problem with, but the style of play that means our back 4 get very little cover from our attack minded midfield. Hold onto your hats, because there are going to be a lot of goals in our games, as we have the Keegan philosophy of we can score more goals than you!!
