Swansea City will have to break their transfer record to re-sign Andre Ayew after a £14m offer was rejected by West Ham claims the Daily Telegraph.
Jason Burt and John Percy writing for broadsheet says Ayew is a priority target for new Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal but their opening bid has been turned down, with West Ham considering whether to keep the Ghana international after Andy Carroll’s injury.
Swansea are prepared to make an improved proposal and will have to significantly eclipse the current club record of £15.5m which brought Borja Baston to the Liberty Stadium from Atletico Madrid in August 2016.
West Ham eventually paid £21.69m to Swansea with add-ons for Ayew and are said to want to see the majority or all of that back to return the player back to Wales.
If Swansea come back w £18m offer I don’t see the board tuning it down but Ayew supposedly doesn’t want to go back there & I can’t blame him.
And if we were to sell him we would need to invest that £18m on a creative player a #10 to help cover for Lanzini and add needed creativity £20m might get us James Maddison tho I think they want to hold off until summer since sold Pritchard.
But could get us Max Arnold, Elynoussoui, Hakim Ziyech maybe. Def get Miguel Alimron.
But don’t want to sell unless have replacement lined up bc squad is very thin & injury prone
