Hammer’s welcome return to form

|

Tomas Soucek seems to have found some much needed form after an impressive game in the 1-1 draw against Albania with SofaScore handing him an 8.1 rating – the highest of any player on the pitch.

The Czech had 76 touches and recorded a pass accuracy of 78 per cent, having made two key passes on his way to creating two big chances and recording an assist.

He also had two shots on target and was successful in both the dribbles he attempted, while he also won all five of his duels in the air.

Although the midfielder was dribbled past on four occasions, he made three tackles and two interceptions as he played the full 90 minutes.

Soucek has always been well received by the fans due to his resoluteness on the pitch and his willingness to put his head where most people wouldn’t.

In fact he has only just come back from a concussion injury

Nevertheless, it can be said that his form has dropped off recently. Don’t forget he was joint top scorer in his first season with us with 10 goals

His goal contribution slumped last season, with him scoring just the two goals – with surprisingly, no headers.

Perhaps due to being asked to take a more deeper role behind the now departed Declan Rice he has struggled to get into promising attacking positions, and only registered just 0.4 shots on target a game and having a very poor conversation rate of just six per cent.

While he did record three assists, his pass success rate was a middling 72 per cent; and his accuracy in the opposition’s half fell to 63 per cent after averaging just 0.4 key passes per outing.

He continued to be reasonably solid in his defensive duties making 2.1 tackles and 1.5 interceptions a game.

As CandH speculated earlier this week ,he might be asked to play a more attacking role this season.
