Manchester City have made Lucas Paqueta a summer target with overnight reports from Brazil suggesting a £70m has been made to West Ham.
There was an initial informal enquiry from City for Paqueta back in June but now it appears that interest has stepped up, but we have been told it is not yet at a stage where there has been a formal bid as reported by Brazilian outlet GloboEsporte
The Brazilian website claims City had already tabled a £70m bid for the Brazilian midfielder but West Ham are expected to reject the offer and demand a higher fee.
West Ham stance is that Paqueta is not for sale and will reject any offer made for their Brazilian play maker.
Paqueta is thought to have a £85m release clause which not thought to be activated until next June.
Earlier this year Lyon said “Olympique Lyonnais confirms the transfer of Brazilian international midfielder, Lucas Paquetá, to English club West Ham for a total amount of €61.63 million, including €18.68 million in bonuses spread over the player’s 5-year contract & 10% sell-on fee”
The total potential fee of €61.63m translates to £52.32m in sterling and the €18.68 translate to £16.16m in pounds. That means the transfer fee paid was £36.16m probably paid in three instalments at just over £12m per year. The £16m of add-ons will most likely be paid based on appearances, European qualification and league position as is the normal case.
When a player changes their agent, it’s usually safe to assume they are trying to engineer something, Scamacca and Paqueta both did that, we are losing genuinely World Class players and after very good ones, the rest of the premier league has realised that the way to do this is by going for young hungry players and adopting a pressing technique, Moyes is, lets go for players that aren’t as good as the ones we have sold and possibly aren’t as good as the one’s we already have in Maguire’s case, Zouma and Aguerd are imho better than Maguire or at the very least equal too but faster covering the ground and younger.
I don’t understand how Sullivan is still in business, the performance is heading in a downward spiral, they can’t talk players into signing new contracts e.g. Bowen and Soucek and Rice before that, coaches leave citing their relationship with Moyes, the intensity level every match is insipid at the start and we rely on moments of magic to score goals, it’s like gambling on chance every single match, you will get away with that for a while but eventually you are going to lose possibly big because it’s odds of failure are greater than it’s odds of success and if you get on a bad run the players lose confidence and all bets are off.
