Controversy seems to forever be dogging one of West Ham’s former first team regulars, despite every effort on his part to re-integrate himself into Nuno’s West Ham squad.

Just last week, training images appeared to show the player ‘back on the inside’ of Nuno’s circle of trust with rumours that a recall was close – dispelled only when the team sheet for the Swansea fixture showed still no place even on the bench for Edson Alvarez.

West Ham midfielder Edson Álvarez, who has issued a statement categorically denying allegations made against him.

Edson Alvarez denies all of the allegations made against him

The ‘kidnapping‘ rumours from last month – all hotly denied by Alvarez, of course – have been followed by further claims in today’s Dailymail.co.uk that will surely have had the midfielder on the ‘phone to his legal team once again, but which will do his chances of resurrecting his career no good at all:

“West Ham star Edson Alvarez accused of selling fake Covid-19 certificates in ‘illicit’ scheme during the pandemic along with his former father-in-law… just weeks after kidnapping allegation”..

Runs the Mail headline this morning, further horrible allegations from Alvarez’ homeland surely ending any suggestions that the midfielder is likely to be close to a first team recall.

West Ham are well stocked with midfielders, with Soucek, Engels, Orford, Kanté and even Magassa now ahead of ‘El Machin’ in the pecking order.

In any case Nuno is hardly likely to entrust the responsibility for patrolling his midfield to a player renown for picking up yellow or even red cards through a rush of blood or loss of discipline when he’s likely to be under extra, serious stress with these allegations now flying around his homeland once again.

West Ham had hoped to find a permanent home for him, reportedly turning down a £12 million package from Olympiacos – but the best they can hope for with the current clouds hanging over his head must surely be a sticking-plaster loan until the noise- in an ideal world – fades into the background.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Curse you Shaun Wright-Phillips.
I still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows another six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser.
Can tell I'm getting old knowing I watched both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old.
Magic.

He’ll go out on loan reducing in value on the books and bringing in a loan fee and no loss will be made on him, but he’s yet another player we invested in who made little contribution and that’s the reason we performed so poorly and were relegated.

We invested good money in a number of players who failed to deliver and that’s poor recruitment.

The Daily Fail is not known for its welcome to people from overseas. I can’t believe it’s still going and that anybody would bother to read it.
