Hopes rise on Rice deal but new offer turned down

|

Declan Rice’s agents are today reported to have turned down a new Hammers offer which would have seen the player pick up £20,000 every time he started a Premier League game!

As CandH reported yesterday the club are optimistic they can strike a deal by Christmas if not before and are encouraged by the new talks.

It means that Rice will continue on £3,000 a week when the latest offer would have meant he was on £15,000 a week basis plus the appearances (and of course win) bonuses  with an increase after every 15 Premier League games.

However, it seems his representative is pushing for a higher basic wage with fewer add ons.

The news comes from the London Evening Standard’s veteran reporter Ken Dyer who has good links into the Hammers boardroom.

Following the story’s appearance we again checked with our own sources and were again told that there was optimism a deal could be done by “and probably before” Christmas with talks proceeding reasonably well.

Teenagers who think that they are entitled to more each week than I earn in a year… I’d rather West Ham were in League Two and playing at Upton Park. The world of football has gone to ****.
