How we rated the Irons at Everton

|

Niall McDonald hands out the marks

Roberto: Fine early save then drawn towards the ball for the goal – he really should have saved it – a vital save from Iwobi late on and an even crazier one off his head from Diop 5

Fredericks: One of the few who seemed close to a decent level of performance 5

Diop: Some well-timed tackles at times; pulled all over the place by Richarlison 5

Ogbonna: A really torrid afternoon. Just about got through it and nearly scored a goal we may not have really deserved 5

Masuaku: Few opportunities to get forward today 4

Rice: First time I’ve seen him overrun in midfield – couldn’t get near opponents or the ball often enough 4

Noble: One of many who played too many misplaced, underhit passes and hacked clearances 4

Lanzini: Another well below par, too similar to Fornals to have both in the side in my opinion 4
Fornals: Surprised he lasted an hour, struggled with the hectic pace and pressure from Everton 4

Anderson: Any of the attacking midfielders could have been replaced at the break. Anderson can console himself knowing things didn’t improve after his departure 4

Haller: Defended a few set pieces. Couple of neat lay-offs; otherwise not a factor in the game 4

Subs
Yarmolenko: Forced Pickford into making a save on 66 mins, which says a lot 4

Wilshere: Not a game to suit Jack’s lack of pace and mobility. No impact 2

Ajeti: I’d need to watch the game again to be reminded if he touched the ball before the 89th minute 2

    I think a 4 or 5 rating generous

if ajeti is a box player he needs to be fed. the score you gave him might be justified if he fluffed chance after chance, he didn’t, the rest of the team let him down. you scored haller 4. why? he defended, he tried to get the ball, but like a lot of the last few games he goes wide to get the ball, which means he isn’t in the area to score. again its down to the midfield. five midfielders, not one shone. rice tried without support or movement up front. lanzini will never be payet however it gets sugar coated, I thought ogbonna was the best defender against a team that wanted it. yes collectively it was poor, why? the management like pretty pretty football (the west ham way?) fine, but we also need aggression and the desire to win the ball and games, which yet again was sadly lacking.
