How we rated the Irons at Fulham

|

Niall hands out his marks

Fabianski: Dealt with their two shots on target easily. A late booking for time wasting summed our performance up in a way 6
Coufal: A very typical display. Never switches off for a second 8
Ogbonna: Untroubled evening other than a yellow card 7
Dawson: Looked very comfortable against a probably soon-to-be Championship Fulham attack 8
Cresswell: No issues defensively tonight, swung in a few decent crosses 7
Rice: Largely nullified Loftus-Cheek, covered a lot of ground 7
Soucek: Very very harshly punished by a) an over-reaction from Mitrovic, and b) a dreadful VAR decision. Just beyond words 7
Lingard: Not at the level of his debut, it’s fair to say 6
Benrahma: Wasn’t given much time or space to show what he can do 6
Bowen: Worked well with Coufal again, seems to be struggling to get going in attack just now 6
Antonio: Wasn’t given much to work with today, hopefully got enough in the tank for Tuesday night 6

Subs
Noble: Presumably introduced to save other legs for the United cup tie – looked way off the levels of the starting XI, and sadly, might now find himself in it for 3 matches4
Yarmolenko: Another trial up-front. If Moyes can turn him into a centre forward anything is possible 4
Fredericks: I’m sure he must have touched the ball, but I must have missed it  No rating

Always fair assessment….. But what about Lindgard?

  • Gary Knight says:

Just before Antonio was subbed I saw him motion to the bench to take him off. Nobody seems to have commented on it. If he felt his hamstring again then this could end up being a seriously bad night for us

    • Winterinthesun says:

I saw this as well, plus he was rubbing his hamstring as well when going back to defend a corner just after.
      Not looking good.
Terrible red card decisions as well. Has to be reviewed and rescinded.

  • Ridders76 says:

Clearly you thought Lingard was invisible too!

  • spindoc says:

On the strength of your rating, anyone who doesn’t already know the result might be forgiven for thinking the Hammers have had an easy win.

  • Mark says:

A lacklustre performance tonight, but happy with a point tbh. We looked off the pace a little. Mike Dean just embarrassed himself, no way was that a red card. Hopefully recinded, and common sense see’s overturned.

  • Sullywhu says:

No strength in depth but I’m sure if moyes is given money over a couple of more windows he will get hungry young players off the bench rather than yarmalenko and noble…. Slowly Slowly catch the Monkey ⚒️⚒️

Good ratings, Fabianski was just ok, back 4 good, Coufal my man of the match, Rice and Soucek solid, Benrahma the best of a poor front 4. How he was taken off ahead of Lindgard was baffling. Antonio was the poorest I have seen him. As for Moyes, once again we saw the same defensive Moyes that I have been watching for the last 15 years, the decision to bring on Noble and then Fredericks were terrible. Am I surprised, not one bit but it does not make it any easier to take. Us fans had a chance to see our team in the top 4 but he totally destroyed that by his inept decision making against a team in the bottom 3. I don’t believe Fredericks touched the ball once apart from a headed pass to Yarmo which went 3 foot over his head. Finally Lindgard proved his through worth tonight and for anyone to think that Man Utd made a mistake, wait till you see the impact he will have and the effect it will have on players like Lanzini and Fornals who shoudl be in the team ahead of him all day. A very poor performance by the team only on a par with the officials but the worse performance of the night belongs to Moyes.

  • NYWHU says:

The disappointing thing about this game is that we had such a hard time keeping possession of the ball. Antonio was especially poor in this regard, but Benrahma didn’t do so well either. Our passing forward was also weak. Lingard looked like he had left everything on the pitch at Villa Park. The whole front line looked tired. As usual, the heroes of the match were the defense: Coufal, Dawson, Cresswell, and with some lapses, Rice and Ogbonna. Luckily, Fulham are even worse finishers than we are. I didn’t think there could be a worse VAR than the Bednarek sending off against Man U, but I was wrong. Mike Dean needs to be given a red himself.

  • Spotted Dog says:

We were hard pressed; literally. Our best chance fell to Lingard but Rice was selfish and didn’t pass it. Lingard was used all over the pitch but wasn’t given a chance on goal. Hate to say it but we were reduced to lofting it into the box for a header (wasn’t that Sam’s way?). Should have hooked Antonio and let Benrahma and Lingard work some magic on the floor.

  • Mark says:

Much too generous ratings. Watching this match you would think Fulham were the team challenging for fourth place and West Ham were in the relegation zone. Most of this was aimless apart from a few cross from Cresswell.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

We were second best in every position on the field, it’s hard for me to mark anyone above 6, we were ok, well organised but nothing more. We lacked ambition from the start, it may prove to be a good point in May who knows ? If we beat Utd on Tuesday will definitely take it m, Noble seems to have lost form completely so imho look for what he can do in another team next season or as a coach, as for Bowen and Lingard they were forgettable, Benrahma looked positive and tried hard but was subbed which seems a mystery… he was our best player until he was subbed. We were negative and got what we deserved as Moyes said Fulham were the better team, well played them.

  • zahamoore says:

It was a poor performance overall – but we still got 1 point. I would have made different substitutions – starting with bringing on Fornals for Lingaard early in the second half. I thought that Bowen was quite isolated as we didn’t try to get attacks going down the right

If Soucek’s ridiculous red is not rescinded (Zahamoore for aliteration champion of 2021) then we will have problems in the next three games – might be worth having a look at Connor Coventry who I see was back for the U23’s – we might also need to look at a 3-4-3 again with Ben Johnson on the left and not Noble in the midfield

Hopefully Man U will take the cup less seriously since the Europa League is about to start again

Before we become too negative let us remember that we already have 39 points

  • mark wiggins says:

Nowhere near our best and too defensive , lacklustre . Let this be a lesson we cannot ease of our performance levels against any team in PL. I am sure the lads will bounce back they have been fantastic in general. Very poor red card decision !
