How we rated the Irons at Wimbledon

|

CandH’s Niall McDonald gives his ratings on the Hammers at Wimbledon

Adrian: One of his quietest matches ever, thankfully. I timed his first touch in the 2nd half on 80 mins 4

Zabaleta: Spared the need to defend after they went down to 10  Zaba was often our most advanced wide man 6

Ogbonna: Resoundingly beaten for their goal, which is a concern. Give him his due
he popped up with a deft finish to put us ahead 5

Diop: Just when I was wondering if the goal would come, it did – thundered in from 25 yards  6

Cresswell: Just like old times! Marauding the left-flank, little triangles, overlaps and crosses 7

Obiang: Not much to do in the first half and not needed after the break 4

Rice: The young Irish/Englishman looked very comfortable on the ball 6

Snodgrass: Really impressive. Linked up well with Cresswell on the left, and remained involved when moved to inside-right 8

Yarmolenko: 89 mins of almost constant attacking will have done him much good . Still rusty but clearly very capable 6

Hernandez: Suddenly and prematurely grey, Chicharito finally eluded some close attention in the 92nd minute to seal the win 5

Lucas: Put in an honest shift. Jury out 4

Subs
Anderson: On at the break as we pushed on even further. Good vision to set up Diop 6

Antonio: Made a couple of direct runs in his 10 minute cameo 4

Masuaku: On very late for the first win bonus of the season   No rating

Bit harsh on the scores for me. Thought we attacked well, all be it against weaker opposition. Was great to see us attacking for 90 minutes and not resorting to hoffing long balls up in hope. Thought Rice was excellent too

Agree with Reggie. Not sure how Adrian gets a 4 when he hardly touched it. Surely a 5 would suggest he was neither good nor bad which, based on the amount of work he had to do, would seem fair.

Really happy to see Snodgrass finding some form. Still not a first 11 starter for me, but great to have his graft to fall upon when needed.

Obiang is a mess. Sideways and backwards and constant whining and whingeing. Clearly doesn’t want to be here.

Good ratings except for Obiang. A good workout but hard to say what we learned after the sending off. Zaba for me is our best right back. Cresswell did well first half. Obiang was the big plus for me, his energy and workrate in midfield was such a difference to watching “Pirlo”. It’s this simple we cant afford to keep playing with 10 men, if Pelle has done his analysis on the Arsenal game, Wilshere has to be dropped. I thought Yarmo did some good things but needs more games to improve fitness. A little more needed from Hernandez but the biggest disappointment tonight was Perez. Probably our poorest player on the night. Delighted for Diop, what a strike.
