The prospect of an additional 35 million euros – about £27 million – over and above the AC Roma bid for Crysencio Summerville offers some real excitement for supporters and, no doubt, for those at the sharp end of West Ham’s transfer business this summer, that the war chest for incoming talent may just have grown.

The published price for Celtic’s play maker Arne Engles had looked out of West Ham’s reach, despite the Hammers being linked with the midfielder last week.

Belgian Engels: One for West Ham? Maybe

However reports today suggest the Irons are indeed in the mix:

“West Ham have now stormed into the race to sign Engels, with the Hoops prepared to cash-in for around £25m this summer, but there could be fierce competition for his signature….

The 22-year-old went on to pick up seven goals and eight assists in all competitions, which suggests he could be a solid replacement for Fernandes, who was involved in eight goals for the Hammers last season….

Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur are all keen, and all five of the aforementioned clubs have Premier League football on offer, which could give them an edge.(footballfancast.com)

Indeed, others in the same price bracket – Sheffield United’s Sydie Peck, for instance, now seem within reach and within  budget if West Ham can complete the dramatic deal to send Summerville to the Middle East.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Selling Summerville for this kind of price makes sense now (40M did not make sense with costs of finding a replacement), because we have a few players to get. If S forced to remain, guess he would have been professional about it, but it would have rankled with him with consequences – perhaps.

Agree with Stevie Mac, we ARE a selling club, but I hope the intention is to move away from this and be a club that keeps the likes of Declan Rice and soon enough, his type of player would want to stay. Some players will be sold to oil the machinery only.

Maybe it will take 3-5+ seasons and some stability, a proven manager who can compete at the top and challenge the best because he is a good coach & the Academy works. For the moment the new duo of Amanda. Gold & DK are doing their bit, now NES, Koppen, coaches, Mendes as well as Noble with the Academy, have to do theirs.

In the long term still keep thinking the Academy should/could play a vital role, it is key. Players such as Noble & Rice if he had stayed, bring so much to a team it is immeasurable. One Rice every so many years is not enough.

I can’t help but thinking we are ‘spending’ money we haven’t even got yet ? Until any supposed deal is done and the cash is actually in the bank, I do feel it’s all a little premature to be talking about possible incomings.

Sorry i cannot see Summerville going to Saudi. Why would he? He’s only 24 years old, just got into Dutch national team. He would be better off playing for a decent European side.

Might just be four times the income and a considerate employer has something to do with it.

Summerville has to take what is on offer rather than hold out for his perfect move to be the main man at Real Madrid or other Galacticos.

This shows us once a sellers club always a sellers club
Funking useless some things never change

Well, it seems the smart way to go , presumably you would accuse Aston Villa of the same ?

Spot on, I trust in the new board and team will get this window right, patience after what has happened the last few years is on the cards

We should be signing Maeda, Ipswich have agreed an £8m deal for him and he is imho as good as Summerville and will score more goals.
