West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini will be turning to his various “alternatives” after learning that Andre Gomes is ready to complete a move to Goodison Park this summer.
A defensive midfielder is the boss’ major priority as he looks to team up the new man – whoever that may be – with Declan Rice believing the back four needs much more protection than last season.
With Winston Reid on his way back, but in no way match fit of course, Angelo Ogbonna remains the likely back up to Diop and Balbuena.
But should there be an unexpected injury the addition of a new defensive midfielder would allow Rice to become the emergency central defender given the club’s investment in a new defensive midfielder.
Dorector of Football Mario Husillos had certainly not put all his eggs in one basket as far as Gomes was concerned but the Portugal international’s choice of Everton will nonetheless come as a big disappointment to the manager who is a big admirer.
I don’t like the spin on the storey that Gomez prefers Everton . If we offer 20 million when they want 25 that’s only going to go one way . We always offer low offers which does not indicate we are serious . Looks like we want cheap alternatives this is not ambition as we need quality not quantity what can I say it’s dissapointing .
So we should pay Clubs asking prices? That would make us a laughing stock and would see our new recruits being some what limited. Even Man City etc offer less than ‘paper talk’ and negotiate!
