Irons 3 Spuds 2

Two successful set pieces and a cool Scamacca finish saw us beat the Spuds in an entertaining friendly.

Of course, the question has to be asked …can you really have a friendly against Spurs?

Anyway, another decent-ish performance from the men in claret and blue.

The scoring opened after 18 minutes when Spurs failed to deal with the second phase of a corner. The newly thatched Danny Ings nodding home from five yards following a peach of a cross from Jarrod Bowen

And it got better after 23 minutes, young Divin Mubuma, rose unchallenged and netted a header into the goal from a corner kick.

What a find, this lad is.!

Surely he is now in contention as first team starter

The second half saw a raft of changes by both managers with goal scorers Ings and Mubama going off and Gianluca Scamacca and Kamarai Swyer coming on.

Our two goal lead was whittled down to one after the ball dropped to Lo Celso about ten yards out and he slammed a low shot past Fabianski and into the net.

That goal was coming as West Ham tried to soak up the pressure.

Then on the 68th minute Spurs equalised with Udogie flicking a near post corner past a motionless Fabianski, whilst our defence looked on admiringly.

Then out of nowhere the Irons retook the lead with Fornals threading a ball through to Scamacca who showed why we bought him by coolly dispatching the ball in a one-on-one with the Spurs goalkeeper, Whiteman.

With the 5 minutes left on the clock our Supremo does one of his bizarre substitution thingy`s by bringing on Luizao for Zouma, with Ogbonna moving to the centre of the back three, and George Earthy coming on, replacing the tireless Bowen on the right of the four-man midfield.

Ok, it was only a friendly but we saw a number of positive things from the Irons, and it would have definitely served as a good confidence booster ahead of the forthcoming season.
