The free agent market waits for no man and West Ham have lost out on one of their summer signing targets. Whether owing to the Hammers’ priority being to offload players first or simply having no head of recruitment in situ ready as the 30th June arrived – who can say.
No sooner had Dan Neil – former Sunderland captain and a free agent as of today – become available than Glasgow Rangers have “swooped” in and plucked him away from Wolves and West Ham’s acquisitive eyes.
As Glasgowworld confirmed today:
“Rangers have completed the signing of Dan Neil on a three-year deal – despite Wolves, West Ham United and Southampton interest.”
Neil, who had previously helped Sunderland and Ipswich Town to promotion out of the Championship, would have been an excellent squad addition to any second tier side with aspirations for promotion back to the Premier League.

Former Sunderland and Ipswich midfielder Dan Neil is now a Rangers player
Sadly that won’t be West Ham who will have to focus elsewhere on a search for a creative gritty midfielder to bolster their squad for Nuno’s campaign.
Discarded by Sunderland after captaining them to promotion, Neil seems to have chosen a new lease of life in the Scottish Premier League rather than another arduous promotion campaign in the English second tier.
Neil is only one of a plethora of Championship – quality midfielders linked with the Hammers since relegation so chances are, like London buses, there’ll be another three along soon.
Probably prefers the warmth and sunshine in Glasgow to the extensive travelling and extra games in the Championship.
Might win more games and get into Europe with Rangers, too.
Give the boy some credit – he has made a great choice.
The.guy must lack ambition if he has chosen a second rate team that would struggle in League 1.
Having seen the quality Disasi gave us, I think we should be plundering the Chelsea bomb squad for loan signings
Not worried about this as i did not want to see him playing for us…Plenty of fish in the sea yet
Time waits for no man (definitely not whu) and the early bird gets the worm.
