Irons believe they have snared signing after late hitch

|

West Ham believes they have overcome the final snags in signing Arsenal striker Lucas Perez and hope to make an announcement before the end of deadline day.

There were come last minute hesitations over personal terms but these are believed to have now been sorted and that the 29-year-old will become a Hammers over the next few hours.

The Spaniard and his agent made some last minute changes to their requirements which are believed to have now been settled by the club.

A Hammers insider explained that there had been some small snags but that all should be well whilst adding: “It’s not done until it’s done.”

Striker Perez has been with the Gunners since 2016 when he scored one goal from 11 games before moving to Spanish outfit Deportivo La Coruna on loan last season where he managed eight from 35 appearances.

The Hammers are still negotiating with midfielder Carlos Sanchez and are hopeful he will be added to the squad over the next few hours.

I can confirm he has definitely signed

For me Sanchez is a mistake and the only one the club has made this summer; he adds nothing to our squad and we should be securing Drinkwater from Chelsea for an area of the pitch we are weak in.

I noticed on Sky that Dendoncker ended up at Fulham for (I think) about £16m. It was quite depressing viewing on there because as I added up in my head the amounts spent by some of our rivals the totals were pretty much matching ours. OK we did get most of our signings early, which should bring us a benefit, but there is no way £75m blows the other sides out of the water as it would have done not so long ago. Even Cardiff, who everybody is tipping for the drop, have spent a fair bit. There is no denying we have spent big but it will be interesting after today to see the League Table of spending.

So I guess it all comes down to the quality of the signings & what the manager can get out of them. Our record on both these things has been poor for some time, but let’s hope Pellegrini has made a difference in this area.

    • Dendondocker was awful in world cup, maybe Pellegrini doesn’t fancy him

I think he is having a medical with Wolves and will cost them £18m plus add-ons

Yes agree with Sean he is more Dendonkey than Dendoncker ,ever since he was touted as a signing to the PL I haven’t seen him have a decent game, for me he falls into the same category as Declan Rice, not really a centre back or cdm something in between, maybe if he focuses on one role he might get to the level but at the moment seems caught between two stalls.

It’s true Dendoncker didn’t have the best of World Cups.
Thank God we’re now in for Sanchez, who had such a stellar tournament😂😂

Fair point MMG. I didn’t see enough of him in the WC to judge, but I have seen enough of Sanchez (even when he was younger) & have never been very impressed. I worry about that CDM position, but am telling myself Mr P has it all worked out. It’s not as if you have to worry about Sunday – Sane, Salah & Co are not going to pose much danger to the back line are they?

  • Mary Millingtons Ghost says:

I honestly thought a CDM would’ve been top priority this window H64,
and with the money from Kouyate’s recent sale thought it inevitable.
I wonder if Manny’s looking at Rice/Obiang? A lot of pressure on the young lad if so.
    Sunday? 2-2.

  • Hammer64 says:

MMG- in my view Obiang is ok but no more than ok. Rice has loads of potential but I agree totally that if he is No 1 CDM it is asking a lot of a 19 year old. I really hope he grows into it but would have preferred him learning the job off somebody with experience. So I think we are going into the season with a possible weakness there. Still we can’t have everything we want in life can we? I would be happy with 2-2 on Sunday. In fact, I would be ever so slightly amazed- after finally beating them at Anfield 3 seasons ago it has definitely been normal service resumed so anything gained is a bonus. Shame they have now got a proper goalie…
