Irons set to miss out on Alderweireld

|

AlderArsenal are this morning reported as being close to signing West Ham target Toby Alderweireld.

The Irons have been in talks with Ateletico Madrid but the player was always seen as something of a long shot and we understand he has rejected the opportunity of coming to Upton Park.

Now the north Londoners are at the head of the queue to grab the player although Southampton continue to hold an interest.

Atletico had previously confirmed the 25-year-old can leave this summer, after he was stuck on the bench for most of last season.

Alderweireld, who can play at right back and in midfield and will become one of several Arsenal defensive option rather than, perhaps, a regular at the Boleyn.
