January Song deal ruled out

|

SongsDavid Gold’s hopes that Alex Song signs a permanent deal with the Irons isn’t set to happen any time soon!

The co chairman tweeted:  ‘Alex Song is an outstanding player and a great character I would love to sign him permanently. Dg’

A rumour was spreading through the club last night that a deal could be sealed in January.

ClaretandHuigh was told the Barcelona loan player could be entering negotiations to make his deal permanent in the next transfer window.

That has turned out not to be true but it was significant the co-chairman’s tweet followed shortly afterwards.

However, we were assured earlier this morning by another senior insider: “That won’t happen. Whether he agrees to a permanent deal will depend on how the team does over the rest of the season and what offers he receives.

“The other issue of course is how much Barcelona want for him – there is little chance of him making his mind up until the end of the season.

Surely we,on the flip side need that time to see just how good he is.A few wayward passes Sunday, and a needless corner given away, which we nearly got punished for.As a loanee he shouldn’t have been captain. There were more worthy players on the pitch. C.O.Y.I.

    • He sometimes has a habit too of charging out of defence and getting caught out of position

Agree about the captaincy Tomkins, Reid and Downing have all been stand-in captains after Nolan and Noble and I found it odd that Song, being a loanee, should have been made captain over the other three although I suppose with Tomkins and Reid having two new fullbacks to play with and look after can understand why these two were not picked but Downing most certainly is worthy. Must admit I was embarrassed when Nolan came on and was booed in the STB upper.

If I remember correctly the deal for Alex Song was that we aren’t even paying his wages, if so why would the David’s negotiate a deal that mean’t we would pay his wages ?

I’m finding this a bit funny. DG’s Tweet was in reply to me simply asking if we had an option to make it permanent. I do recall DS once saying that most loan deals he works on include that option. We shall see.

    • Rest of the story remains true however, Dave

Never doubted that, Hugh. Just had a laugh sitting in a car park in a school trip with my son, waiting for the class to come back, reading how DG’s simple reply started the rumours. More of a commentary on the power of social media now.

    Who else deserves captain then?

Tomkins – just been convicted at court
    Reid – disloyal contract rebel
Downing – not really the leader type

Song was the only one on the field who had the ability to command the team having been there and done it and would be listened to and respected.
