Liverpool have a major worry at central defence for the Hammers visit this afternoon with only Virgil van Dijk the one senior defender available at 100 per cent fitness.

His regular partner at the heart of defence is Dejan Lovren who has not been back in training long enough to be considered according to sources on merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp – who is set to stick with his favoured 4-3-3 formation – is also likely to be without next in line choices Joe Matip and Joe Gomez, both of whom only returned to training on Thursday having suffered muscle problems.

Ragnar Klavan is also definitely unavailable due to a muscle complaint.

The Liverpool boss looks likely to include youngster Nathaniel Phillips and could be forced to play him from the start if Matip and Gomez are ruled out.

In midfield the Reds could be without Fabinho who has been suffering illness and Jordan Henderson is just 50/50  having recently returned from England duty.

That could leave James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum,  to team up in midfield, alongside Keita.

Nathaniel Clyne is set to startwhile first choices Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are all available and almost certain to start.

Liverpool likely XI: Alisson; Clyne, van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson; Milner, Keita, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
