Adrian hopes his busy pre-season will see him continue into opening  day when the Hammers start the serious business  against Liverpool this afternoon.

The Spaniard appears to have been the favoured Pellegrini choice as the squad has prepared but who is to be his number one -Adrian or Fabianski – will finally be revealed at around 12.30 pm.

Either way Adrian is ready declaring: “We are excited to start the season. We are ready to start. We’ve done a good pre-season. We were training really well and really hard with the new manager and the new signings.

He told www.whufc.com: “We are making a good, competitive squad. We are working to be mentally and physically prepared for Liverpool.”

The Hammers have won just once in the Premier League and once in all competitions since 1963 but Adrian is unfazed by the stat.

He said: “I think, to be fair, all Premier League games are difficult, but playing against Liverpool away in the first game is even more difficult.  They finished last season very well and they made a number of really good signings as well.

“It’s the first game, and we want to start well as well. Obviously, it’s not just down to the defenders and the goalkeeper. We have to really concentrate on our defence. Everyone has to do their part, do well, and defend and attack as a team.”
