Koppen gets green light for further bid for exciting young winger | West Ham News

With the welcome news that West Ham have got cold feet on the transfer of Reiss Nelson from Arsenal, (C and H, earlier), there’s clearly work to be done bringing in another winger with a better fitness record, ahead of the window closing on 2nd September.

West Ham currently have just one operative on each flank: Whilst Bowen’s injury record is impressive, new signing Manor Solomon has had problems in the last couple of seasons, so cover for the wide men is essential.

The Hammers had made a one time offer – rejected as it turned out – for the hitherto unknown Viking FK’s winger Edvin Austbø of something around €9 million. With the ending of interest in Reiss Nelson there’ll doubtless be speculation that Nils Koppen may head back for a second stab at succeeding with another bid for the youngster.

Viking FK winger Edvin Austbø, who has emerged as an exciting transfer target for West Ham.

Young winger Edvin Austbø may yet be a ‘person of interest’ to the Hammers again

The player himself has done all he can to signal his own enthusiasm for a move to east London: Reported by sportwitness.co.uk the 21 year old seems keen:

“I’m in constant dialogue with the club management [At Viking]. You have to have that when such big offers come in. But I’ll never cry or whinge my way out of Viking. However, if an opportunity arises and there’s a fair deal, I’d like to take it.

“I don’t know how big their bid was, or how much Viking are asking for, but West Ham is a cool club and are certainly of interest to me.”

Carry on Koppen, then. If West Ham do decide to try and tempt Viking FK to part with their young starlet, the player himself seems ‘up’ for a move to West Ham United. Which makes a change this season.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Edvin Austbø is one of the better players in the Norwegain league, and still young. He was very good in 2025. He’s had some injuries this year, but is on his way back to full fitness.
Could be a very good signing. Normally plays on the left. I think Viking will ask for more than €9 millions, maybe €13-14 millions.

Austbø and Jens Hjertø-Dahl are the two best young talents in that league I would love it if agent Nils could wrap up both of them. Huge upside to these kinds of signings and waaayyy more exciting than Nelson.

  • Jeeps says:

Will he be an addition to main team or academy?
Cummings was promised by Potter regular first team experience and still waiting.

I agree DJ…. but we also have Nuno….. Nuno….. Nuno

Mentioned three times for Cornet… Tobido … and AWB who he refuses to manage …. forgetting the German who probably is unmanageable

Keen indeed. We could do with keen.

Anyone else puzzled by subdued player response to Taty first goal on Saturday? Maybe it is only Portsmouth and we can score without too much effort so it is not worth getting excited. Lots of those games still to come.

If we are going to continue with the forward movement and early crossing of balls into the box perhaps we might have room for Haller, Scamacca or Chicorito Hernandes. Great players who never had support from our contemporary ‘style’ of play.

Mouth watering. Where are they now? Available?

  • Steve F says:

Offer a 25% uplift on any future sale…. if the lad is good, his existing club will make far more that way, as will West Ham…… if it happened.

No cost to the Hammers, except on increased profit, which of course there is no chance of we don’t sign the lad

  • Hammerdan says:

Yes llease, would be an exciting addition to the squad!!

  • DJHammer says:

    We’ve got Cornet…
    Maxwell Cornet….
    I just don’t think you understand….
