Manchester United, Paris St Germain, Arsenal and Liverpool have all been linked with one of West Ham’s two top talents in recent weeks.

West Ham’s new power in the boardroom Daniel Kretinsky may just have upset a few summer transfer plans with his unilateral declaration, carried byThe Times newspaper today.

Not included in the joint statement set out by West Ham United yesterday, but carried by both newspapers since, is Kretinskys’ very bold assertion made in an interview, apparently, with The Times, in which he trashes completely David Sullivan’s old narrative that West Ham have to sell players to pay their huge debts.

So much so I had to go back and read it twice to check it was, indeed, correct.

And there it was in black and white, published by the Times on Sunday afternoon. Kretinsky said in the Times interview:

“We have a very credible strategy. We don’t need to sell the players for financial reasons.” “We are doing this to make sure we are promoted back to the Premier League immediately. That is our only goal.

Key players are waiting for us. They want to see there is a real chance of keeping the squad together.”

Which is a bold statement of intent if ever there was one. Maybe time to re-consider the narrative that the heart of West Ham’s team will be ripped out to pay for Sullivan’s colossal mismanagement. Interesting.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Unfortunately whatever happens back line will need strengthening.
Unless Chelsea are prepared to sell Disarsi back for £20m that’s if he would play championship.
Even if Taty stays another striker will be needed.
Same as Disarsi Wilson hasn’t found new club yet.
Summerville just scored for Netherlands another £5m on his transfer fee.

Keeping Mavropanos and getting Disasi back would be excellent news (defense was the team’s Achilles heel during the first half of last season). Even better if Summerville also decides to stay.

      Who’s this “Disarsi Wilson”?
And Chelsea cannot sell Disasi “back” to us,they can loan him BACK to us,or sell him to us.

We Don’t need to sell for financial reasons just means anyone who other clubs want will have to pay what we say not what they offer…….it may be a wishful thought but i would love it if all our players that we want to keep chose to stay and show a bit of loyalty but this is football and you never no…But the DK charm offensive is ramping up now restore the badge get rid of the word London COYI

      Are we not in London?

If that’s top of your wish list, you need to think on.

No need to call his heartwarming statement “brash”. It’s utterly excellent news.

well it is a bit brash for him, he’s normally the inscrutable sphinx. indulge me my alliteration.

  • ricardo says:

The fewer players sold, the better. It should imply a simpler job for Nuno if the players already know each other and share the will and belief to get West Ham straight back to the Premier League (after a “not so good” season last year ….).

The subtext to this article should be.. West Ham United are not giving players away on the cheap anymore, and If you want to buy any of them, you will need very deep pockets.
I don’t know about you lot. But I’m feeling far more positive about where our club is going, than I have for far longer than I can remember! I wonder why that might be!!! Anyway, COYI…
