Kudus’ Ghana beaten and bottom of Group

Mo Kudus’ Ghana were beaten and are bottom of Group B after their opening Afcon fixture this evening.

They were beaten by the supposed weakest team in their group – Cape Verde – who took a first half lead which Ghana equalised before they grabbed a winner in injury time following a terrible defensive mix up.

Kudus missed the match as the Ghana bosses Chris Hughton decided he could not be risked following his recovery from a hamstring injury but he will face an uphill struggle to help a side that looked a lot less than average in a game littered by mistakes.

It was only goalkeeper Richard Ofori who kept them in the game until the end with a series of fine saves and apart from their goal the Ghanaians had little to offer up front.

Garry Rodrigues won the game for Cape Verde tapping into an empty net. Jamiro Monteiro had put the islanders ahead and Ghana then had a goal ruled out for offside before half-time.

Alexander Djiku equalised with a stooping header but Ghana keeper Richard Ofori made two big savesĀ  which had he not would probably have given the scorer line a more realistic look.
