London mayor demands enquiry as Stadium costs soar

|

img_0198London mayor Sadiq Khan has ordered an investigation into the finances of the Olympic Stadium after being told the total cost of converting the arena for use by West Ham has soared by a further £51m.

Mr Khan announced his investigation into the conversion cost – up from £272m to £323.

Sky News claims the cost of the retractable seats, installed to improve the view for football, has risen from an estimated £300,000 to £8m.Engineers have said work to move them could take 15 days at the end of the football season and 15 days to put them back after the summer – three times as long as the five days initially predicted for each period.

Mr Khan is said to be deeply concerned at the cost increase, with deputy mayor Jules Pipe telling Sky News they have inherited “a mess” from predecessor Boris Johnson.

Last year the previous administration told the public that the costs had risen in total to around £270m. The new Mayor has now been told that cost will be over £320m.

“Understandably, Sadiq has ordered an investigation as to why those two figures are so wildly different.

“As the new administration at City Hall clearing up the mess of the previous administration, we need to make sure that the stadium runs on a sustainable basis and it is affordable to London.”

I don’t think Khan is blaming West Ham, more like the LLDC/Boris but who knows I guess we will find out in time.

perhaps Mr Khan would like it as a mosque then he wouldn’t give a monkeys how much was spent on it then. We know it ain’t a football ground but at the moment it is or do we become homeless & play where?

i think it is safe to say things aren’t going to plan at our shiny new home. pity that film wasn’t shot at the LS and blow up the whole stadium. so much money wasted & still end up with a horrible mess. the money would have been better spent on building a new football stadium than waste it on what is there.
more negative press coming our way in the morning

Wait until they see the policing bill rise, I can’t see how it can cost 8m a year to put the seats in and take them out even though the design was all wrong, perhaps they should just let West Ham build a top quality Athletics stadium in the area that holds 25000 and allow us to have the Stadium for an offset fee, we can redesign it with a retractable roof and even more seating, we could safely increase the capacity to 80000 and leave some space for further expansion, put in some more hospitality as well which is what makes the big money anyway 😉
