Maguire stalling over wages

According to The Sun, the Irons may walk away from a deal to sign Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire and have identified Bayer Leverkusen’s Odilon Kossounou as an alternative.

They claim that we are having problems agreeing personal terms with Maguire

It was understood that the Irons had agreed to pay Maguire £120,000 per week, a significant reduction from his current £190,000-a-week wage, while he will receive a £6 million fee from Manchester United when departing Old Trafford to help offset his wage cut at the London Stadium.

But apparently that is still not enough and The Sun claim he is stalling.

So, we are now looking at Bayer Leverkusen’s Odilon Kossounou as a back up.

The 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender is well known to Tim Steidten, from his time at the Bundesliga club and is a big admirer of the youngster’s talent and potential.

The 6ft 3in defender has made a total of 69 appearances in all competitions since joining the Bundesliga side from Club Brugge in the summer of 2021. He seems to be viewed as a bit-part player though. So it looks like he is keen on a fresh start, and a move to the Premier League could be the next big step in his career.

Maguire v Kossounou or Moyes v Steidten

Of course in a real world of recruitment this would be ringing every alarm bell, didn’t rate us, didn’t want to come, ManU forced his hand yet the enormous wage is not enough! Trouble is, Moyes is in love with the bloke. Does anyone believe that if he comes to us he will wholeheartedly give his all for our cause? We saw Daws last night for Wolves defying Man U brilliantly. I don’t think Maguire is as good as Craig!! Our recruitment is so broken, bad choices, failed integration and team plan, losing money hideously on every deal, no idea who to get or in what timescale. Take a look at the amazing Brighton model, compare and contrast, it’s shocking and embarrassing.

Not better than Oggie, Aguerd or Zouma and clearly wants mercenary money. Leave him and blood and youngster.

Maguire isn’t worth £120k a week. Forget him West Ham. C’mon Tim lad….. do your stuff.

Give the guy a break. Man Utd are clearly holding this up making sure they have a replacement. If he doesn’t come it’ll be because we’ve lost patience and implemented Plan B (whatever that might be).

Good to have options so it’s not always players driving the process. I suspect Moyes and Steidten partnership working better than the press would like us to think!

Maquire doesn’t think £120,000 is enough despite the £6m MU are paying to get rid of him. Pure greed. Let him rot in Manchester.

I think the old saying “Beggars can’t be choosers” might apply here. It would appear that Harry Maguire has an overblown sense of himself being above everybody else. His ego is compromising his playing future. If West Ham are the only club that is really showing an interest in him then why is he making things so difficult? The way things are going he could end up rotting at Old Trafford. With little or no game time his England aspirations could be compromised.
