30th June is being seen as a financial deadline for West Ham’s new regime – a deadline which could have a significant bearing on their summer transfer window business, according to a new report this evening.

With the club’s top assets currently priced at stratospheric levels – Fernandes at £85 million and Summerville at – take your pick, anything between £50 and £70 million – interested clubs are playing a waiting game to see if the prices fall suddenly as the 30th June approaches.

That is the claim from givemesport.com who claim that Manchester United still believe they can ‘liberate’ Fernandes from London in a ‘cut price, high stakes power play’:

“Manchester United are playing it cool with their pursuit of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers need cash before June 30th to balance the books and avoid breaching financial regulations. United are hoping that their asking price could drop in the final days of the month.

West Ham are believed to be demanding in the region of £80 million for the Portuguese midfielder, but United are hoping that price tag drops in the coming days.”

You’d suspect that, were West Ham still in Sullivan’s Chairmanship then this could well be the case.

West Ham with Kretinsky on board does seem a very different proposition in the summer window the the Czech billionaire already declaring that the Hammers don’t need to sell players this summer.

Either way, we’ll know the truth in eight days time.

Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
