Marcus Browne’s form at Oxford once again demonstrated – if it needs to be – the extraordinary progress being made within the club’s academy.
Grady Diangana, Conor Coventry, Joe Powell, Browne, Nathan Holland and Xande Silva are all starting to catch the headlines with the midfielder’s exploits at Oxford the latest talking point.
These days we tend to check the length of contract left given the importance of making sure we hold on to our best prospects.
And the good news is that Marcus is tied to the club via options in the club’s favour for another three years not that it will be overly relevant at this stage of his development.
Given the club’s midfield issues and their hunt for additions this winter it is possible to recall him from Oxford in January but that is extremely unlikely as the plan has always been to allow him time to develop on loan.
He has ticked some massive boxes at the Kassam Stadium and it now seems realistic for him to return at the end of the season, join the first team pre-season training and see how things go from there.
Meanwhile, with Manuel Pellegrini taking such a keen interest in the academy youngsters we can be certain he will be monitoring Brown’s progress very closely indeed.
