Irons won’t stand in defender’s way should offer arrive

|

Reece Oxford’s enthusiasm to leave West Ham this winter is probably matched only by the club.

With Manuel Pellegrini keeping the closest possible eye on the Under 23s and academy products it speaks volumes that he has shown no real interest in the £20k a week teenager.

The player has made it clear recently that if there is no chance of him breaking through at the club he is keen to move on with his preference thought to be for for Germany where he was settled on loan last season before being called back to London.

And the club are hoping that either Borrusia Monchengladbach or another club interested last season – FC Leipzig – move this winter to take the 19 year old.

Oxford’s chances of breaking into Pellegrini’s thinking are close to zero given he has Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop, Angerlo Ogbonna as central defensive options and Winston Reid on his way back  from injury. And should there be an emergency he also has added cover in the shape of Declan Reid.

Oxford has been doing most of the pushing publicly in  his bid to get away but the club have no intention of standing in his way should an offer come in.

Other media outlets say Oxford is back training with the Hammers first team with an aim of getting a game.Don’t know what to believe now.

Oxford has been training with the first team and has been on the substitutes bench. He doesn’t want to leave. He wants to stay and fight for a place in the team. But realistically what are the chances he’ll get a game unless Diop or Balbuena were to get injured? I feel sorry for Oxford. Sent out on loan to somewhere he wasn’t played, much like Haksabanovich. If he is going to progress and improve as a footballer then he needs to be playing competitive games and if he can’t get them at West Ham then he’s going to have to move on if he wants to further his career in the game.
