The person in charge of health and safety at the London Stadium is a retired senior police officer. Steve Riley is a former chief inspector with the Metropolitan police and was also a member of the borough Senior Command Team and leader of the Events & Operations team with responsibility for managing the policing operations for football matches played at Chelsea, Fulham and QPR Football Clubs.
On retirement from the force he worked with London 2012 Summer Olympics as an events services manager tasked with the safe movement and management of spectators and other venue users in, out and around Olympic competition venues.
He later joined Fulham in 2012 as their safety officer before joining London Stadium 185 in August last year as Head of health and safety.
It is Mr Riley’s role to make sure the stadium remains safe and he will be key to resolving segregation, stewarding, security and policing issues recently at the former Olympic stadium.
The same role at the Boleyn Ground was fulfilled by Ron Pearce in the guise of Stadium manager. He was made redundant in June after 26 years at the club.
Have specialist police in presence within the stadium to hook troublemakers out.
Have fences between home and away supporters.
Have the concourses segregated so home and away support cannot mingle during the game.
That would be a good start imho
I didn’t realise the concourses were not segregated. I thought that was a legal equipment,. That’s going to be carnage if we don’t do anything by the time we play Chelsea, MAnure or Tottenham.
No segregation on the concourses Awd.Like you say if nothing is done about that there will be a right royal f*cking tear up on one of them eventually once we play a rival team not just the likes of Watford or Bournemouth.
Agreed I was there on Saturday there is no segregation of supporters & the only time I saw police was outside the stadium. The stewarding desperately needs revising not enough to stop people leaving beer bottles & glasses on the stairs & smoking, considering the man in charge has had experience of policing football matches it is a bad show unless his bosses did not want to pay the money to do the job correctly
