Merson predicts New year Hammering

|

paul-merson-2Paul Merson is tipping Manchester United to punish the Hammers at the London Stadium this evening.

The Red Devils head into the game looking to make it six wins on the spin after their 2-1 win over Middlesbrough at Old Trafford on New Year’s Eve.

Manchester United are aiming to close the gap to the top four and know that a win over West Ham on Monday would move them to within 10 points of leaders Chelsea.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “Against Middlesbrough I saw the Manchester United that I’ve known for 15 years and played against when I was still playing. They were 1-0 down, but just pummelled the other team, throwing the kitchen sink at them, until they finally got the win. That shows what I’ve been saying about the Premier League this season; draws are no good and you HAVE to win football matches.

“Their attitude was they would either win 2-1 or lose 3-0 – and that’s what you need to do.

“They were outstanding and if they keep playing like that they should beat West Ham, even if they go behind.”

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

The Utd performance against us in the cup, as poor as we were they were spectacular especially Martial and Mkhitaryan if we can score some goals it could be a classic match, Obiang must start and every player must compete, unlike the cup game we have to press as high up the pitch as possible and when we can’t win the ball be first to the second balls COYI !!!

Reckon we should realize that Merson is on the right track with his prediction but , an upset is on the cards . If , as No32 says we press high up from the off . Defending a lot will lose us the game . Man Utd can have defensive issues against West Ham today especially if we keep pumping in those high crosses . It was bad finishing and a lack of being clinical against Leicester that cost us expensive points . First home game of 2017 and coincidentally against the team we beat on our Last game at Upton Park . A bit like against Arsenal on Thier last home game at Highbury and Thier first game at the Emirates .
Come on You Hammers ,,, please .
