John Moncur has told Mark Noble to make sure he has plenty of wheel chairs and zimmer frames available as the Hammers old boys hobble into the ground for the captain’s testimonial tomorrow (Mon).
Forty nine year old Moncs will be joined by the likes of Trevor Morley (55), Steve Lomas (42) and Ian Bishop (50) along with a host of others.
And Moncs told ClaretandHugh : “I reckon someone is going to have to wheel half of us out there but it will be tremendous to have one last Boleyn hurrah.
“I can’t imagine the memories that will come flooding back – sadly that’s all you have when you finish as a player…the memories and this one will live for a long time. It’s great to have this opportunity.”
Moncs can think of no player in the game who deserves such a day more than Nobes saying: “You don’t get many testies these days. He’s a local lad who has never wanted to go anywhere else.
“I remember him as a super confident 16 year old in the gym at Chadwell Heath and it’s brilliant to see how far he has come and to be part of a wonderful day on his behalf.
“The fans will come out in their droves and provide a fabulous atmosphere. They have a very special bond with Mark and it’s going to be a wonderful day. I shall be quite emotional – that’s a certainty.”
“You don’t get many testies these days.” I know Moncs had a lot of balls but did he really have more than 2?
